Canada Day Parade
June 25, 2015 6:10 pmCanada day is fast approaching. It is hard to believe that we will be celebrating our Nation on Wednesday. This year will be the third year that I have participated in the Steveston Salmon Festival Canada Day Parade. The Steveston Salmon Festival is a wonderful outing for the whole family, it is self proclaimed “Canada’s biggest little birthday party”. This is their 70th year and I assume they will have a good turnout as always; it is a very popular event in the Richmond community over 70,000 people attend every year. The main attraction (aside from myself…just kidding) is the famous Salmon Bake; wild sock-eye salmon is cooked over a fire-pit. There is also a range of activities from cultural displays, arts and crafts, live musical performances and car shows.
We have been blessed with spectacular weather for the past two years, so I hope that this year is no exception. The festival takes place all day, beginning at 6:30 AM and ending at 5:00 PM. At 6:30 AM, it kicks off with a tasty pancake breakfast. The parade itself starts at 10:00 AM. My team and I will be handing out my Shafik reusable shopping bags, so be sure to watch out for me and my team in the precession. There will be 100 other floats, a marching band and local celebrities. The main stage host many different performances, Jodo Shin Taiko, Stone Poets, RichCity Idol 2015 Hannah Goertz, Steveston Drum Circle, and Urban Myth. Fingers crossed for amazing weather again this year!
